AboutPaul Jaboulet Aîné
Paul Jaboulet Aîné was founded by Antoine Jaboulet in Tain-l’Hermitage in 1834 and grew through successive generations of the family. Caroline Frey assumed direction in 2006. A gravity-fed winery opened in 2010; organic certification followed in 2016, alongside a move toward biodynamic practice.
The house works across the northern Rhône, from Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage to Cornas and Hermitage, with Syrah providing the backbone of its red-wine range. Louis Florentin Jaboulet acquired the Saint-Christophe chapel above Hermitage in 1919.

French
Black olive and smoked bacon give the first impression a dark, savoury tone, followed by crushed blackberry, graphite and violet. The palate is dense but not jammy, with concentrated fruit held by firm, fine-grained tannins. A clear mineral line keeps the power focused, and the finish is exceptionally long, elegant and floral. Decant well before serving with venison, braised beef or aged hard cheese.
