Passopisciaro
Passopisciaro
Andrea Franchetti began restoring an old farm and abandoned terraces on Mount Etna in 2000, creating the estate known as Passopisciaro. The winery stands high on Etna’s northern slope near Castiglione di Sicilia, where volcanic soils and elevation distinguish separate vineyard contrade. Nerello Mascalese is central to the project, alongside smaller plantings used for distinct white and red wines.
Franchetti’s death in 2021 makes his founding role historical, while the estate and its local team continue the work. Parcel wines and broader blends retain their own vineyard sources and cellar choices. Today the estate continues Franchetti’s Etna project through its northern-slope vineyards and Nerello Mascalese-led wines.
