AboutPācina

Pācina occupies a former tenth-century monastery at Castelnuovo Berardenga, east of Siena, with vineyards rooted in the pale, stony Tufo di Siena soils. Five generations of the Tiezzi Borsa family have cared for the property. Giovanna and Stefano took responsibility for the farm in the early 1990s; Maria and Carlo, with their partners, have since joined them.

Vines grow alongside olives, cereals and legumes, all farmed organically. In 1987, Lucia made the family’s first bottling without added sulphur. The cellar favours concrete vessels, long ageing and a light touch in its Sangiovese-led wines.

Pacina 2019 Donesco Toscana Rosso

Italian Red
$48.99
Made entirely from Sangiovese, this dry red comes from younger vines at the Pacina estate in Tuscany. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in concrete, and ageing lasts approximately twenty-four months in concrete and stainless-steel tanks. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, and selected yeasts are not added. Total sulphur is ten milligrams per litre. The vineyard work is organic, and the finished wine contains 14.5 percent alcohol.
