Ornellaia was established at Bolgheri in 1981, and the first vintage of its namesake wine followed in 1985. The Frescobaldi family owns the estate.
Individually managed parcels stretch between the Tyrrhenian coast and the hills, across soils of marine, alluvial and volcanic origin. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot lead the plantings, alongside Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and several white varieties.

Red and black berries lead an elegant, complex bouquet, with tobacco, spice and a light balsamic note developing behind the fruit. The palate is full and enveloping, framed by densely woven tannins that feel ripe, soft and polished. Dark cherry, blueberry and crushed stone add definition, while fresh acidity keeps the concentration measured. The finish is long, fruity and quietly savoury.

Black fruit leads with blackberry and black cherry, layered with vanilla, tobacco and a touch of sweet spice. Soft aromas of dried fruit and plum open with fine herbs, toasted wood and a quiet trace of tobacco. The palate is silky and full, bringing dark chocolate, roasted coffee and warm spice into a polished, velvety frame. Careful distillation of the estate's wine marc preserves aromatic detail, while maturation gives the spirit its golden colour and composed depth. The finish is long and gently warming, with bitter almond, cocoa and savoury spice lingering. Serve neat after dinner at cool room temperature.
