AboutMud House

Mud House began when a travelling couple abandoned a round-the-world sailing trip for New Zealand, planted vines and built a home from earth dug on the property. Its vineyards span the South Island, including Marlborough and Central Otago, where Claim 431 at Bendigo supplies Pinot Noir.

Sheep graze between the vines, reducing tractor work, while buckwheat is grown between rows to support biodiversity and soil health. The wines include regional releases and limited single-vineyard bottlings.

New Zealand Red
$33.99

This New Zealand red shows moderately deep, bright pink-red colour with ripe red cherry, dried herbs, scented oak and spice. The medium-bodied palate is smooth-flowing, with chocolate-coated cherry, dark cherry and bramble. Wild-berry freshness, fine tannins and balanced acidity are present. The finish is long. The wine is bottled under screwcap and carries 13.5 percent alcohol.
