AboutMeukow
Meukow was founded in Cognac in 1862 by Auguste-Christophe and Gustav Meukow, two brothers from Silesia. Since 1979, the house has belonged to Compagnie de Guyenne, an independent family group founded by Michel Coste. Coste introduced the sculpted panther bottle in 1993.
Cellar master Anne Sarteaux leads the blending, drawing principally on Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne alongside other Cognac districts. The spirits are distilled twice and matured in oak before lots of different ages and origins are blended.
Meukow XO Sublime Cognac 750 mL
Candied peach and prune lead an expressive nose, followed by jasmine, iris and warm baking spice. The palate is smooth and enveloping, with chocolate and vanilla layered over mature wood and a gently nutty rancio character. Fruit remains present through the centre, keeping the richness balanced rather than heavy. The finish is long, polished and warming, carrying dried fruit, spice and seasoned oak. Serve neat in a generous glass.
Meukow VSOP Red Edition Cognac 750 mL
Candied orange, apple and plum rise with rose and polished wood spice. The palate is broad and smooth, moving from fruit sweetness into leather, liquorice and dark coffee. Vanilla softens the structure without obscuring the brandy’s dry edge. The finish is intense but controlled, leaving coffee, bitter cocoa, orange peel and warm spice. Serve neat or with a single large cube.
