Matua began in 1974, when brothers Bill and Ross Spence made their first wine in a rented tin shed in West Auckland. Their experiments began with vines planted in 1968, followed by a commercial Sauvignon Blanc block in 1978. Today, its wines draw on several New Zealand regions.

Ripe lemon, passion fruit and gooseberry open with a fresh herbal lift of cut grass and basil. The palate is bright and energetic, layering blackcurrant and tropical fruit over crisp acidity and a clean citrus line. Juicy without feeling broad, it finishes direct and refreshing. Serve with seafood, green vegetables or a simple goat-cheese salad.
