AboutMatteo Correggia
Matteo Correggia was twenty-three when he inherited his father Giovanni Battista’s farm in Roero in 1985. His first wines followed in 1987. After his death in 2001, Ornella Costa Correggia and the family continued the work; she now leads a team that includes the next generation.
The estate directly manages twenty hectares of Roero vineyards, growing Nebbiolo, Barbera and Arneis in its sandy soils. Grass covers the vineyard slopes, pruning and harvesting are done by hand, and fertilization uses organic material. Cellar decisions vary by parcel, from maceration to the choice of vessel and ageing, and the estate has also experimented with screw caps.
Matteo Correggia 2022 Barbera d’Alba
Crushed raspberry and blueberry appear with pepper and rose petals. The palate is juicy, with an unctuous, silky texture and freshness that continues through the finish. The wine is made entirely from Barbera grown in fine sandy soils. Grapes are harvested by hand toward the end of September, and maceration in stainless steel lasts six to eight days. Wood ageing lasts at least three months.
Matteo Correggia 2022 Roero Rosso
Nebbiolo grows in the sandy hills of Roero. The grapes are harvested by hand, then macerated in stainless steel for six to eight days. The wine spends six months in second-use barriques. Violet, dried flowers, white pepper and balsamic herbs define the aromatic profile. The palate is intense and structured, with present tannins and a persistent finish.
