AboutMarkovitis Winery
Markovitis Winery concentrates on a single vineyard block at Polla Nera on the foothills of Naoussa, devoted entirely to Xinomavro. The family planted the vineyard in 1972; the winery was formerly known as Château Pegasus. Markos Markovitis is the third generation to lead the family winery.
The east-facing vines sit between roughly 230 and 250 metres on clay threaded with limestone and granite. For its Naoussa Xinomavro, grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed, then moved by gravity before fermentation and ageing in tanks and used barrels.

Sun-dried tomato, olive, cherry, strawberry, plum, lavender, sweet spices, dried fruit and leather form the profile. The wine is dry and balanced, with firm tannins and a long aftertaste. Made entirely from Xinomavro, it comes from organically farmed forty-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils with flint at 250 metres. The grapes are hand-harvested, wild-fermented and aged twelve months in used barrels.
