AboutMark Haisma
Australian-born Mark Haisma spent a decade making wine at Yarra Yering before moving to Burgundy in 2007. He began without vines, building agreements with growers and involving himself in their vineyards before gradually acquiring parcels of his own. His winery is at Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, close to Vougeot, and purchased fruit remains part of his work.
Haisma favours spontaneous fermentation and uses whole bunches selectively, adapting the cellar work to each parcel. Alongside Burgundy, he makes wines in the Northern Rhône.
Mark Haisma La Croix des Champs 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin
Ripe cherry and strawberry lead a generous, mature profile, with liquorice, beetroot and gentle vanilla adding depth. Savoury notes of meat, forest floor and cedar sit behind the fruit rather than dominating it. The palate is round and elegant, shaped by light tannins and a fine peppery edge. A touch of earthy root vegetable appears toward the close, followed by a composed, lightly astringent finish.
Mark Haisma 2023 Bourgogne Aligoté
Meyer lemon, nectarine and honeysuckle open with a cool, stony lift. The palate is refined and textural, carrying ripe citrus and orchard fruit through a clean mineral frame. There is enough breadth to feel generous, but the finish remains composed, precise and quietly energetic. A polished white for shellfish, roast chicken or firm Alpine cheese.
Mark Haisma 2022 Cornas
Dark cherry and plum lead with blackberry, sage and a touch of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and concentrated, with creamy tannins surrounding the ripe fruit. Smoky bacon and savoury spice add depth without heaviness, and the finish remains long, vibrant and distinctly mineral.
