AboutMarchesi Mazzei
The Mazzei family’s wine history stretches back more than six centuries, and Castello di Fonterutoli has anchored its work in Chianti Classico since 1435. A document written by Ser Lapo Mazzei in 1398 records a reference to Chianti wine. Family members are directly involved in winemaking, management, export and hospitality.
Alongside Fonterutoli, the family works at Belguardo in Maremma and Zisola near Noto. Local grape varieties and attention to soil and water guide farming across the estates.

Fresh cherry and savoury dried herbs lead the profile. A silky palate carries leather, cedar, spice and smoky dark fruit. The blend is ninety percent Sangiovese and ten percent Merlot. Fruit was harvested by hand from vines between fifteen and thirty years old, then the wine spent twelve months in small French-oak barrels, half of them new.
