Louis M. Martini

Louis Martini opened his winery in Saint Helena in 1933, as Prohibition came to an end. Born near Genoa, he brought formal wine studies and years of California experience to the venture. In 1936 he bought Monte Rosso Vineyard on Sonoma’s Moon Mountain, beginning the winery’s long association with the site’s Cabernet Sauvignon.

A restoration completed in 2019 preserved the original winery while renewing its cellar and visitor spaces. Winemaker Zach Watkins draws on the mid-century Cabernets for inspiration, aiming for varietal clarity, fresh acidity and moderate alcohol.
