AboutLe Grappin
Le Grappin is the small-scale Burgundy project of Emma and Andrew Nielsen, established in 2011 after Andrew spent five years learning from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers across several wine regions. Working from Beaune, they seek overlooked Burgundy sites and build relationships with growers who tend those parcels carefully through the season. Their Du Grappin range reaches into the Mâconnais, Beaujolais and Rhône.
Small lots are handled by hand, with fermentation and ageing adapted to each site. Sulphur is used sparingly, with concrete and seasoned wood among the cellar’s vessels. The Nielsens use capsule-free bottles, refillable kegs and bag-in-box packaging, and reuse shipping cartons in the UK.

Whole clusters from fifty-year-old, gobelet-trained Gamay vines are fermented semi-carbonically in concrete for several weeks. The wine is then pressed into an oak vat for nine months of ageing before being racked and bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Granite and schist underlie the Les Raisses site in Lancié, next to Fleurie. Retained carbon dioxide gives the finished wine a slight prickle, and alcohol is twelve percent.
