Winemaker Reg Holder launched Lautus in 2017 with South Africa’s first de-alcoholised wine, then committed to the project full-time the following year. Raised among the vineyards of the Olifants River Valley, Holder studied viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch before building experience in South Africa and abroad.
Lautus begins with fully fermented wine made from grapes selected from different regions. Its two-stage spinning-cone process works at low temperatures: aromas are captured before the alcohol is removed, then returned to the wine.

Pure red and black berries open with a generous but controlled fruit profile. A touch of oak adds quiet savoury depth, while fine tannins keep the palate polished and composed. The blend feels juicy through the centre without becoming sweet or heavy, carrying dark fruit into a clean, measured finish. Smooth and balanced, it closes with blackberry, red berries and a gentle echo of oak.
