AboutLaphroaig Distillery

Laphroaig was founded on Islay’s south coast in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston. The distillery grew beside the Kilbride Stream, whose soft, peat-filtered water remains fundamental to production. Bessie Williamson became owner and manager in 1954 and helped establish the use of American ex-bourbon casks.

A portion of the barley is still malted on site, turned by hand and dried over Islay peat in the distillery’s own floor maltings. Peat smoke, maritime and medicinal notes are hallmarks of its style, alongside fruit and sweetness.

Laphroaig Lore Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Scottish Whisky
$255.99
Rich peat smoke and seaweed lead the aroma, softened by a restrained thread of sweetness. The palate is powerful and layered, bringing dark chocolate, roasted coffee and warming spice into a distinctly maritime frame. Medicinal smoke and brine remain central, while vanilla and roasted nuts add roundness. The finish is savoury and persistent, carrying salt, embers, bitter chocolate and coastal freshness.
