AboutLa Alteña
Don Felipe Camarena founded La Alteña distillery in Arandas, in the Jalisco Highlands, in 1937. The family introduced Tapatío tequila in 1940, and Don Felipe’s granddaughter Jenny Camarena now leads the family-owned house.
For Tapatío, the family grows blue Weber agave in its own highland fields, allowing some plants to ripen further before harvest. The agave is cooked in brick ovens, crushed with rollers and a stone tahona, then fermented with its fibres in open wooden vats before being distilled twice.

Mexican Tequila & Mezcal
Cooked agave and baked earth lead the nose, followed by black pepper, citrus and a light mineral note. The palate is concentrated and savoury, with sweet roasted agave, mint and herbaceous freshness balancing the higher-proof warmth. Flamed orange peel, red apple and a touch of raspberry bring lift before a long finish of spice, agave and gentle sweetness. Serve neat with a little water, or use it where a Margarita or Paloma needs a more assertive agave core.
