AboutJipyeong Brewery
Jipyeong Brewery began making makgeolli in 1925 in Jipyeong-ri, a rural community in Yangpyeong County east of Seoul. Its compact brick brewery later served as a command post for United Nations forces during the Korean War and was registered as modern cultural heritage in 2014. Kim Gi-hwan inherited the family business in 2010 and expanded its distribution across South Korea, preserving the original brewery.
Jipyeong makes makgeolli with rice, water and nuruk, a traditional fermentation starter. New brewing facilities added since 2016 have increased capacity.
Jipyeong Fresh Makgeolli
Creamy and gently tangy, with a soft yogurt-like texture balanced by clean rice character. Sweet and tart notes sit in careful proportion, while light carbonation gives the palate lift and leaves a fresh, composed finish. Chill thoroughly and turn the bottle gently before serving, then pair with Korean pancakes, fried chicken, grilled pork or moderately spicy dishes; its cool, lively character helps soften heat and richness.
