AboutJansz Tasmania
Jansz Tasmania began in 1986, when Champagne house Louis Roederer partnered with Heemskerk Wines to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at Pipers River. The Hill-Smith family purchased the property in 1998, and the house focuses exclusively on Tasmanian sparkling wine. Close to Bass Strait, maritime breezes temper winter frost and summer heat, slowing ripening across Pipers River’s red, free-draining basalt soils.
Jansz also has a winery and vineyard at Pontos Hills in the Coal River Valley, in Tasmania’s southeast. It calls its approach Méthode Tasmanoise: traditional bottle fermentation with minimal handling.
Jansz Tasmania Premium Rosé NV
Strawberries and cream, rose petals, Turkish delight and fresh brioche shape the profile. Pinot Noir leads the blend, joined by Chardonnay and a small portion of Pinot Meunier. Classical sparkling production includes hand picking, gentle whole-bunch pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation and bottle fermentation, followed by extended lees ageing. The mousse is creamy, with texture, richness and lively freshness.
