Hopworks Brewery was founded in Portland in 2007 by Christian and Brandie Ettinger. Christian’s route to his own brewhouse ran through formal brewing study and production roles in Oregon before he began building Hopworks with his father Roy. Their first pub was a former tractor showroom, fitted out with reclaimed materials, energy-efficient equipment and bicycle parking.
The brewery buys renewable energy and works to reduce waste. Its cleaning equipment is designed to conserve water.

Caramel malt gives the palate a rounded, toasty core, framed by spicy hops and a clear citrus lift. It is generous without feeling heavy, with firm bitterness bringing structure and leaving the finish fresh, dry and gently resinous. Serve well chilled with roast pork, smoked cheddar, grilled mushrooms or a winter stew; the balance of malt richness and bright hops handles deeply savoury flavours with ease.
