AboutHobel
Hobel Wines began with a friendship between wine merchant Cameron Hobel and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who met in Napa in 1998 and spent the next decade looking for the right project. Their first Cabernet Sauvignon vintage was 2009. Cameron and Bahaneh Hobel are the proprietors, while Brown leads the winemaking.
A hobel is a traditional woodworking plane used to smooth a surface. Each vintage carries a different hand-applied piece of wood at the bottle neck.
Hobel 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Sweet oak and cedar frame a deeply coloured, concentrated Cabernet core of boysenberry, blueberry and bitter chocolate. The palate is massive yet silky, with ample fruit, firm vineyard-driven structure and a line of tension running through the richness. Fresh acidity keeps the scale balanced, carrying violets, crushed rock, incense and blackberry into an energetic finish.
