Highwood Distillers began in High River, Alberta, in 1974 under the name Sunnyvale and adopted its current name ten years later. The company expanded its reach in 2005 with the purchase of Potter’s Distillery, then moved into a larger facility the following year. It became part of Caldera Distilling in 2022 and remains privately owned.
For its grain spirits, Highwood works with unmilled Alberta grain and water drawn from an aquifer beneath the foothills. Fermentation takes roughly ninety hours, and the whisky matures in oak after distillation. The range includes Canadian whisky, vodka, rum, gin and liqueurs.
