AboutHardys
Hardys began with Thomas Hardy, who arrived in South Australia in 1850 and bought the riverside property he called Bankside in 1853. He bought Tintara in McLaren Vale in 1876. By 1887 his sons James, Thomas Nathaniel and Robert had joined him in Thomas Hardy & Sons, carrying the founder’s work into another generation.
Eileen Hardy became a public face of the house after her husband’s death in 1938, and the first wine bearing her name followed in 1973. McLaren Vale is its historic home, but Hardys also selects and blends fruit from other Australian regions.
Hardys 2020 VR Shiraz
Ripe blackberry and plum lead, with black pepper, liquorice and a touch of vanilla adding warmth. The palate is full and smooth, carrying generous dark fruit through soft tannins to a rounded finish. An easy match for burgers, grilled sausages, barbecued ribs, pizza or hearty vegetable stews.
