AboutGuigal
Étienne Guigal founded Maison Guigal in Ampuis in 1946 after beginning his Rhône career at Vidal-Fleury. His son Marcel took charge in 1961, and Philippe and Eve Guigal now represent the family’s third generation.
From its Côte-Rôtie home, the house makes wine across both the northern and southern Rhône. Château d’Ampuis became the family headquarters in 1995, and a barrel-making workshop opened there in 2003.
E. Guigal 2016 Condrieu
French White
White peach, apricot, dried pear, Meyer lemon, nectarine and citrus zest appear with violet, chamomile, honey, ginger, almond cream, anise and light toast. The wine is fresh, round and rich, with chalky mineral character and a lingering finish. Viognier grows on granite and sandy soils in steep terraces. Fermentation and eight months of maturation use new oak barrels and stainless steel, and malolactic fermentation is completed.
Guigal 2012 Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde de Guigal
French Red
Plummy fruit appears with ground clove and cracked pepper. The texture is ripe and creamy. Vanilla and bacon are present on a slightly dusty finish. The blend is ninety-six percent Syrah and four percent Viognier. Maturation lasts at least thirty-six months in oak, with forty percent new wood. The colour is dark ruby red, and the wine has round, soft tannins.
E. Guigal 2014 Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde
French Red
Kirsch, blackberry, toasted nuts and spice meet a medium-to-full body and a seamless, elegant texture. Black pepper, liquorice and game add further detail. The blend is 96 percent Syrah and 4 percent Viognier. Plots lie on steep slopes: Côte Blonde has siliceous limestone, while Côte Brune is rich in iron oxide. Oak ageing lasts 36 months.
E. Guigal 1998 Côte-Rôtie La Mouline
French
Black raspberry, cassis and redcurrant are lifted by violet, acacia and a faint apricot note, then deepen into bacon fat, tapenade, smoke and pepper. The palate is plush and silky, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish. Mature savoury tones sit comfortably beside the fruit. Decant carefully and serve with roast duck, lamb, venison or a deeply flavoured mushroom dish.
E. Guigal 1998 Côte-Rôtie La Turque
French
Cassis, blackberry and red cherry open into liquorice, smoked meat, violet and dark spice. The palate is immense and concentrated, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a silky texture carrying the fruit through a long mineral finish. Earth, herbs and smoky oak add savoury depth without obscuring the perfume. Decant patiently and serve with roast lamb, duck, venison or slow-cooked beef.
E. Guigal 1998 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne
French
Blackberry and blackcurrant are densely layered with smoke, tapenade, truffle, dark chocolate and worn leather. The palate is powerful and firmly tannic, but the concentration is matched by fresh acidity and a long mineral, savoury finish. Earth, incense and warm spice emerge as it opens. Give it a careful decant and serve with venison, braised beef, lamb shoulder or a deeply flavoured mushroom dish.
Guigal 2014 Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde
French Red
Cherry and raspberry rise with cedar, cracked pepper and wild herbs. The palate is light on its feet yet structured, carrying red berry fruit through fine, spicy tannins and a smooth, even texture. A savoury herbal note gives the middle quiet complexity without weighing it down. The finish is fragrant and persistent, leaving pepper, red fruit, subtle wood and a gentle earthy echo.
Guigal 2012 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc
French White
White flowers, acacia honey and hawthorn blossom lead a powerful, aromatic nose, with toasted notes adding depth. The palate is rich and concentrated, layered with white peach, melon, citrus and gentle nuttiness. A dense, rounded texture is balanced by mineral tension, carrying subtle spice through the long, persistent finish.
Guigal 2020 La Mouline Cote Rotie
French Red
Ruby red with vermilion highlights, opening on intensely aromatic small red fruits, blackberry and violet. The palate is supple and silky, balancing generous blueberry fruit with dried spice, savoury depth and finely woven tannins. Full-bodied yet graceful, it carries lively acidity and quiet mineral tension into a long, plush finish.
Guigal 2020 La Landonne Cote Rotie
French Red
Deep red-black in colour, with powerful aromas of small black fruits, liquorice, roasted notes and fragrant spice. The palate is rich, round and velvety, bringing concentrated dark fruit, black pepper and savoury depth. Dense structure and ripe tannins build through the centre, while fresh acidity carries the remarkably long, composed finish.
Guigal 2020 La Turque Cote Rotie
French Red
Blackberry, blueberry and raspberry meet smoked meat, graphite and dark chocolate, with violet, incense and flint lifting the bouquet. The palate is concentrated yet remarkably balanced, carrying ripe black fruit through fine, dusty tannins and a long mineral finish. Powerful but poised, it suits slow-roasted lamb, venison or beef.
E. Guigal 2012 Ermitage Ex-Voto Rouge
French Red
Crème de cassis and black raspberry lead, layered with crushed rock, liquorice and a subtle savoury note. The palate is powerful and full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit wrapped in ripe, steadily building tannins. Vanilla and spice add depth without softening the wine's mineral focus or its exceptionally long finish.
