AboutGiuseppe Mascarello e Figlio
In 1881, Giuseppe Mascarello established the family estate that has remained closely tied to the hills of Barolo for four generations. His son Maurizio purchased a farm in Monprivato in 1904, and in 1919 added the eighteenth-century Monchiero building whose naturally steady temperature suited the cellar.
In 1970, Mauro Mascarello began making a separate wine from each vineyard, starting with Monprivato. The Monprivato Barolo undergoes a long fermentation and matures in large Slavonian oak casks. The family also makes wines from Dolcetto, Barbera and Freisa.

Dark cherry and prune are layered with dried rose, orange peel, menthol and wet stone. The palate is rich and powerful, yet the fruit remains poised, with firm Nebbiolo tannins and fresh acidity providing balance. Tar, liquorice, fennel and early truffle notes add savoury complexity through the long finish. Decant carefully and serve with braised beef, game, porcini or aged Parmigiano.
