AboutFranz Haas

Founded in 1880, Franz Haas has carried the same family name through eight generations of winegrowing in Alto Adige. Pinot Nero has been a particular focus, with its sensitivity to heat driving the search for cooler vineyards at higher elevations. That move uphill began in 1999, and the vineyards now reach 1,150 metres. Grass and flowering plants are left between the vineyard rows.

Artist Riccardo Schweizer created many of the labels, beginning with the design for the 1987 Pinot Nero Schweizer, released in 1990.

Franz Haas 2025 Pinot Grigio Alto Adige

Italian White
$45.99
Acacia, sage and meadow grass lead a floral, lightly herbal bouquet, followed by pear, yellow apple, almond and citrus. The palate is bright and medium-bodied, balancing ripe orchard fruit with fresh acidity and a clean, persistent finish. Serve with seafood, vegetable risotto, roast chicken or mild cheeses.

Franz Haas Pònkler 2019 Pinot Nero Alto Adige

Italian Red
$369.99
Bright ruby in colour, with ripe raspberry, rosehip and blood orange giving the nose a vivid, lifted character. Sage, candied ginger and fine green spice add complexity without obscuring the fruit. The palate is deep yet elegant, spreading smoothly across the tongue with polished structure and lively spice. A subtle stony note brings focus, while balanced freshness carries the wine into a very long, precise finish.

Franz Haas 2022 Schweizer Pinot Nero Alto Adige

Italian Red
$124.99
Ripe cherry and wild berry notes open with pepper, leather and a cool savoury edge. The palate is elegant and finely structured, combining silky tannins with vivid red fruit and a harmonious, supple texture. Subtle spice adds depth through the middle without overt weight. The finish is long and composed, returning to cherry, berry fruit and gentle earthy detail with freshness and measured intensity.
