AboutFornacina

Fornacina is the Biliorsi family estate in Montalcino, founded by Ruggero Biliorsi, with its first Brunello vintage in 1981. Today Simone Biliorsi works alongside his brother Mauro, making wine exclusively from the family’s own vineyards.

Roughly five hectares lie on the higher slopes around the winery and in a warmer parcel at Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2004. For Brunello, long skin contact in temperature-controlled steel is followed by ageing in large Slavonian oak casks.

Fornacina 2020 Brunello di Montalcino

Italian Red
$129.99

Blood orange and currant lead the documented profile, followed by tar, leather, toasted and spicy hints. The wine is made entirely from Sangiovese, harvested from September into October. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with long maceration and traditional pumpovers. After malolactic conversion, the wine spends at least two years in large Slavonian oak.
