AboutForis Vineyards
Foris Vineyards began as Ted and Meri Gerber’s family project after they bought remote hillside land in Southern Oregon’s Illinois Valley in 1971 with the intention of growing grapes. They planted vines in the 1970s and supplied other Pacific Northwest wineries before releasing their own wines in 1986.
The estate sits high in the Rogue Valley appellation within the Siskiyou Mountains, only about twenty-five miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Cool nights help the grapes retain acidity, and Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir are a focus in the vineyards.
Foris Vineyards 2017 Dry Gewürztraminer
Bright straw-gold in colour, with yellow rose, lychee, peach, cardamom and fresh rose. Nectarine, citrus, rose petal and orange pith appear on the palate, while sweet ginger and white pepper accompany the finish. Estate-grown fruit was harvested in three lots in mid-October, whole-cluster pressed and fermented at low temperature in stainless steel for thirty days. The wine contains fourteen and a half percent alcohol.
Foris 2017 Riesling
Pear, white peach, sweet orange and Meyer lemon open this bright estate-grown Riesling. Juicy tangerine and nectarine follow on a crisp palate, with mouth-watering acidity carrying sweet citrus and honey into the finish.
