Fonseca
AboutFonseca
Fonseca traces its Port trade to 1815, when João dos Santos Fonseca recorded his first purchase and sale; the first overseas shipment followed in 1816. Its first Vintage Port under the Fonseca name appeared in 1840, and the Guimaraens family has guided its winemaking across successive generations.
Three Douro properties form the vineyard heart of the house: Quinta do Cruzeiro, Quinta de Santo António and Quinta do Panascal. Panascal joined Fonseca in 1978, and part of the vineyard later hosted organic trials.

Black cherry and cassis fill the nose, joined by ripe plum and a subtle floral note. Full-bodied and sweet without losing shape, the palate carries dark berry fruit through velvety texture and firm, well-integrated tannins. Freshness keeps the richness composed, leading to a long, generous and fruit-driven finish.

Serve slightly cool with mature cheddar, dark chocolate or berry-based desserts.

Deep amber colour with russet highlights accompanies ripe, plummy mature fruit. Cinnamon, butterscotch, subtle oak and opulent nutty character are all present. Selected red Ports from Cima Corgo and Douro Superior mature in small oak casks. Cask ageing is part of the method; the wine shows tawny colour and a smoother, mellower character. This age-stated fortified wine comes from Portugal's Douro Valley.

Deep in colour with a brick-red rim, opening on ripe cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. Dark chocolate and cocoa add depth, while mint and warm spice bring lift. The palate is rich and powerful but remains harmonious, with crisp fruit and firm, silky tannins carrying the wine without heaviness. A softening texture suggests maturity, yet the structure remains clear through a long, expressive finish.

Dense black and red berries lead the nose, lifted by leafy balsamic detail, cedar and a distinct mineral edge. The palate is intensely concentrated and layered, with plush fruit carried by a velvety texture. Firm tannins and bright, continuous acidity keep the richness composed, while the finish stays long, powerful and persistent. Decant before serving, then pair with blue cheese, walnuts, dried figs or dark chocolate.
