Fairview Cellars 2001 Merlot Cabernet
Canadian Red
Merlot and Cabernet form this red blend from the Okanagan. The six-acre property near Oliver was purchased in the late nineteen-eighties, and Bordeaux varieties were planted from the early nineteen-nineties. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc occupy most of the site. The winery opened at the turn of the century beside the Fairview golf course, within one of Canada's warmest grape-growing areas.

Canadian Red
Red and black berries, currant, tobacco, bell pepper, herbs and anise define the profile. Integrated tannins, medium acidity and a long, clean, balanced finish are present. The blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, with Cabernet Sauvignon making up at least half. The wine comes from Golden Mile Bench in British Columbia.

Clear deep ruby colour has garnet tinges. Savoury dark plum, dark cherry, cigar box and thyme appear in an intense aromatic profile. The full-bodied palate combines rich dark fruit with tobacco, leather and a hint of cinnamon. Silky tannins and composed acidity accompany a lengthy finish. This red comes from Oliver in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia.

Medium ruby-purple colour accompanies ripe cherry and liquorice. The wine is dry, with medium-plus acidity and full, ripe tannins. Cherry, plum, cassis, spice and tobacco appear, with a long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, joined by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Mint, blackcurrant and spicy cherry are also present. Production totalled three hundred cases.

Plum and spice define the nose of this Canadian Cabernet Franc from British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. The wine is dry and carries medium-plus acidity together with substantial tannin. At a contemporary cellar tasting, the bottle remained quite closed but was already described as very tasty. Its tannic scale was recorded between medium-plus and high at that visit.

Aromatically expressive and full-bodied, this dry red balances bold fruit with a generous, textured palate. Firm, drying tannins give it clear structure, while ripe dark fruit and savoury depth build through the mid-palate. Despite its scale, the wine remains composed and well balanced, finishing with confident weight and persistence.

Savoury herbs lead into subtle stone fruit, citrus blossom and a gently rounded honeycomb note. Fresh acidity gives the palate definition, while a quiet touch of vanilla and fine pithy grip add texture through the long finish. Aromatic without excess weight, it works well with roast chicken, grilled vegetables or creamy seafood dishes.

Dark fruit, cassis and prune lead, joined by leather and a measured tobacco note. The palate is broad and silky, with red currant and plum adding lift around a dry, medium-bodied frame. Smooth, still-present tannins give shape, while dark chocolate and savoury maturity settle into a balanced, medium-length finish.
