AboutDomaine Montmartel

Raoul Couston established the family vineyard at Domaine Montmartel in 1919, after the First World War. Damien Marres took over in 2002, aged twenty-three. The estate’s vineyards span Visan, Valréas and Saint-Maurice; around Visan, the hillsides have clay-limestone soils, rolled stones and woodland.

Organic farming has been part of the estate’s work since 1991. Some of its wines are made without added sulphur.

Domaine Montmartel 2016 Côtes du Rhône Villages Visan

French Red
$36.99

Black cherry and raspberry open with touches of violet, wild herbs, earth and smoke. Equal parts Grenache and Syrah give the 2016 Visan generous fruit and warmth without excessive weight, while supple tannins carry the savoury finish. Serve with grilled lamb, braised beef or herbed vegetables.
