AboutDomaine du Closel

The vineyard history of Domaine du Closel reaches back to 1495 at Château des Vaults in Savennières. Since the French Revolution, five generations of women have inherited and shaped the property. Today, Antoine Fardeau makes the wines with the estate team and the continuing support of the family.

Fourteen hectares of vines occupy wooded slopes and small valleys beside the Loire, with Chenin Blanc at the heart of the Savennières range. Organic farming began in 2007, followed by biodynamic practice in 2015.

Domaine du Closel 2018 Clos du Papillon Savennières Magnum 1.5 L

French White
$219.99
Baked quince and dried apricot open into crushed almond, beeswax and a subtle flinty edge. The palate is concentrated and textural, with orchard fruit and a savoury marzipan note balanced by firm, rocky acidity. A fine bitterness adds definition rather than weight, carrying herbal and mineral detail through a long, dry finish. Decanting will help the layered character settle into focus.
