Domaine Barge
Domaine Barge
The Barge family has worked vines in Ampuis since 1860, creating a long connection between the domaine and the northern Rhône. Gilles Barge developed the modern estate, and his son Julien assumed responsibility for the domaine in 2019. The family farms Côte-Rôtie together with smaller holdings in Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, keeping each appellation’s identity distinct.
Syrah anchors the red wines, while Viognier is used for Condrieu and may have a limited traditional role in some Côte-Rôtie parcels. The estate reports eliminating herbicides from 2018; that bounded practice does not imply a separate certification status. Today the Barge family continues to work Côte-Rôtie and neighbouring northern Rhône appellations from its base in Ampuis.
Domaine Barge 2020 Côte-Rôtie Coeur de Combard
Black cherry and dark berries lead a deep, savoury bouquet, with liquorice, roasted herbs and iron adding definition. The palate is medium to full-bodied, its ripe fruit carried by silky tannins and a layered, supple texture. Freshness keeps the wine balanced as pepper and mineral notes develop through the middle. Long and composed, it finishes with black fruit, herbs, liquorice and a persistent ferrous edge.
