AboutCieck
Cieck grew out of Remo Falconieri’s experiments with sparkling Erbaluce in 1985. A farmer’s son who designed typewriters for Olivetti, he travelled to France to study sparkling-wine production. Just over 2,500 bottles came from that first harvest and were released in 1987.
The estate is now based at San Giorgio Canavese, with thirteen hectares planted mainly to Erbaluce. Much of the vineyard is trained on broad pergolas. At its heart is Vigna Misobolo, the Erbaluce hillside Remo planted in the 1970s on glacially formed ground above San Giorgio. Cieck makes still, bottle-fermented sparkling and passito wines from Erbaluce.
Cieck 2018 Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG
Italian White
Made from Erbaluce selected across estate vineyards, this white wine comes from pergola-trained vines on loose, stony moraine soils at about 320 metres, with south and south-westerly exposures. The grapes are destemmed and pressed, then fermented at low temperature for twenty-one days. Four months in stainless steel follow. Hawthorn and fruit accompany a straw-yellow colour with green highlights and a lively acidic structure.
