Château Rauzan-Gassies
Château Rauzan-Gassies
AboutChâteau Rauzan-Gassies
The estate grew from Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan’s seventeenth-century holding, which was divided in 1763. Rauzan-Gassies was ranked a Second Growth of Margaux in 1855. Paul Quié acquired the château in 1946; his grandchildren Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe now co-direct it.
The vineyard occupies roughly thirty hectares across Margaux’s deep gravel and gravelly sand, with Cabernet Sauvignon leading Merlot and a small planting of Petit Verdot. Woodland, meadows and marshes surround the vines. Vineyard work is adjusted to each parcel’s soil, vine age and rootstock.

Blackcurrant, ripe plum and cherry compote lead into cedar, graphite and dried violet. Silky and medium-bodied, the palate layers blackberry, dark chocolate and tobacco leaf over fine-grained tannins and vivid acidity. Spice, mineral detail and subtle oak carry the smooth, refined finish, balancing generous fruit with measured structure.
