Château Henri Bonnaud
AboutChâteau Henri Bonnaud
Stéphane Spitzglous, the third generation at the property, took over from his grandfather Henri Bonnaud in 1996. He released his first estate-bottled vintage in 2004 and named the château for the grandfather who had taught him the vineyard. At Le Tholonet, six kilometres southeast of Aix-en-Provence, the estate has fourteen hectares within Palette, an appellation of only about forty-eight hectares.
Langesse limestone and a natural amphitheatre beneath Sainte-Victoire shape a sheltered site, with most vines facing south and some parcels holding vines more than 60 years old. Spitzglous began converting the vineyard to organic farming in 2010, and all of the estate’s wines have been certified organic since 2013.
Château Henri Bonnaud 2013 Palette Rouge
Deep cherry colour introduces a red built from Mourvèdre, Grenache and old-vine Carignan. Morello cherry and spice define the aromatic profile, while the palate is framed by tannins described as youthful yet silky. The finish is delicate and persistent. Cherry, spice and silky tannins form the central character of this Palette red, supported by its three-grape blend.
