Written references to the vineyard now associated with Haut-Brion reach back to 1521, making documentary history central to the estate’s identity. Jean de Pontac developed the property in the sixteenth century and built the château that anchored its emergence as a named Bordeaux wine. Haut-Brion was included among the First Growths in the 1855 classification and is the only one situated in today’s Pessac-Léognan appellation.
Clarence Dillon purchased the estate in 1935, beginning the ownership chapter continued by his descendants and Domaine Clarence Dillon. Prince Robert of Luxembourg has chaired the family company since 2008, while technical responsibilities remain with the estate’s specialist team. Together, the estate archive and present governance place Haut-Brion’s long Bordeaux history within a clearly documented family company.

French Red
Silky and layered, with black raspberry, ripe cassis and dark plum set against tar, spice and warm gravel. The palate is polished and concentrated, yet the tannins remain fine and elegant, giving the fruit a seamless, measured flow. Tobacco and subtle smoke emerge through the middle, adding savoury complexity without obscuring the freshness. The finish is long, balanced and persistent, carrying pure dark fruit, mineral depth and refined structure.
