Château Cabrières

Part of Château Cabrières’ stone house and cellars dates to the seventeenth century, while the Arnaud family has owned the Châteauneuf-du-Pape property since 1948. Agnès Arnaud and Patrick Vernier took over in 2009 and now work with their children, Arnaud and Astrid, carrying the estate into a fifth family generation.

The vineyards lie on the high northern plateaus of the appellation, where Alpine deposits and chalky Miocene ground are covered by large flint pebbles. Those stones absorb daytime warmth and release it after sunset, moderating evaporation in this exposed Rhône setting. Some parcels were planted around 1900 and preserve all thirteen varieties historically authorized in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Cabrières’ strength is therefore not a single fashionable technique, but the continuity of a family working unusually old, mixed plantings on a distinctly stony site.
