AboutChapel Hill
Chapel Hill takes its name from an 1865 ironstone chapel in Seaview, McLaren Vale. Tom Nelson found the abandoned building in 1971, planted vines the following year and released the first wines in 1975. Winemaker Pam Dunsford later helped establish the winery’s reputation and opened doors for women in Australian wine.
The vineyards lie beside the Onkaparinga Gorge, where sea breezes reach small blocks with varied soils, slopes and exposures. Reclaimed water, compost, cover crops and solar power are part of the winery’s environmental work.
