AboutCesare Bussolo
Cesare Bussolo grew up in La Morra, studied at Alba’s wine school and spent seven years at Bovio before joining Roberto Voerzio in 2007. His own wines began with Santa Lucia, the west-facing vineyard where he played as a child and replanted Barbera in 2010. A small holding in Fossati followed in 2014, allowing him to begin making Barolo.
At Santa Lucia, yields are kept low and farming avoids synthetic fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides. His cellar work uses native yeasts and mostly used French oak barrels, with wines bottled unfiltered.
Cesare Bussolo 2023 Dolcetto d’Alba
Italian Red
Deep young red in colour, the wine carries ripe plum and cherry. The palate is full, with softness, fine acidity and tannins. It remains refreshing and firm through a long finish. Made entirely from Dolcetto in Piedmont, it contains thirteen percent alcohol, less than three grams per litre of sugar and 5.4 grams per litre of acidity.
Cesare Bussolo 2019 Barolo Fossati
Italian Red
Rose petal and violet lead into sour cherry, blackberry and dried plum, with tar, tobacco and licorice adding a distinctly savoury dimension. The palate is structured and energetic, shaped by bright acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins. Mineral detail carries through a long, composed finish that balances fruit, earth and spice. Decant before serving with braised beef, osso buco, roast lamb, mushroom risotto or aged hard cheese.
Cesare Bussolo 2020 Barolo del Comune di La Morra
Italian Red
Deep red and dark berry liqueur aromas lead, with rum-raisin and vanilla adding richness. The palate is creamy and generous, bringing blackberry and dark cherry together with balsamic oils and candied flowers. Tannins build with air, shaping a firm, gripping finish marked by berry skin and concentrated fruit.
