Cave de Chautagne began in 1952, when roughly fifty local growers pooled their harvests and resources around a shared cellar. In 2016 it merged with the cooperative at Apremont to form Le Vigneron Savoyard, renovating the winery and adding a new bottling line. The combined cooperative now brings together more than thirty-three members farming about 170 hectares in Chautagne and Apremont.
Its cellar makes red, white, rosé and sparkling Savoie wines. The cooperative also helps new growers establish themselves.
Cave de Chautagne 2022 Gamay Vieilles Vignes
French Red
Dense, dark colour accompanies cassis, blackberry and raspberry with leather, flint, animal and mineral notes. The palate is relatively full-bodied and well structured, with fine, integrated tannins, richness and persistence. Made entirely from Gamay, the wine comes from selected old-vine parcels in Chautagne. The fruit grows on sandstone-molasse slopes at low yields in Ruffieux. The vineyards are in Savoie.
Cave de Chautagne 2023 Roussette de Savoie Vieilles Vignes
French White
Pale yellow with golden reflections, the wine shows pineapple, peach and hazelnut. A lively, balanced opening leads to an ample, creamy palate and a long finish. The old-vine white is made entirely from Altesse, a grape native to Savoie. It is classified as a dry white under Roussette de Savoie AOC. The release received a gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris.
