Volpaia is not simply a winery beside a medieval village; its cellars are threaded through the fortified settlement itself. The first surviving document naming the castle and its wine-bearing hills dates to 1172, while the Mascheroni Stianti family has restored and farmed the property since the 1960s. Ancient rooms, passageways and concealed wine conduits allow a modern cellar to work without stripping the village of its character.
About forty-five hectares of vineyards climb above 400 metres on stony sandstone soils in the high reaches of Chianti Classico. Sangiovese is the centre of gravity, supported by estate selection of old local vine material and long-established organic farming. Architecture, family stewardship and high-elevation viticulture therefore read as one continuous Tuscan story, rather than separate pieces assembled for visitors.

Dark amber in colour, with citrus peel, bergamot and bitter cocoa leading a complex, mature bouquet. Dried mango and candied fruit add richness, while toasted nuts and chocolate bring savoury depth. The palate is concentrated and silky, balanced by bright citrus lift. Long and warming, it closes with cocoa, dried fruit and a gently bitter finish.
