AboutCampolargo
The Campolargo family has grown grapes near Mogofores in Bairrada since the early 1920s, when Martinho made red and white wines for local merchants. His son Manuel expanded the vineyards, and later generations began trials in the 1990s before releasing the first modern Campolargo wines from the 2000 harvest. The business remains family-run, with Jorge overseeing the vineyards, Carlos the cellar and sales, and Joana representing the fourth generation.
Across Quinta de São Mateus and Quinta de Vale de Azar, Bairrada grapes grow alongside a wide selection of international varieties. Hand-picked fruit moves through a hillside cellar by gravity, and fermentation takes place without added commercial yeast, enzymes or bacteria.
Campolargo 2017 Bical Barrica Bairrada
Cinnamon, quince and green plum appear together in a perfumed profile with fresh fruit and acidity. The wine is light-bodied and it also has an almost oxidized character. Whole Bical grapes from clay-limestone soil are pressed and decanted before fermentation in used French oak barrels without temperature control. The wine remains in those barrels until bottling.
