AboutBodegas Carrau
The Carrau family’s wine story began in Catalonia in 1752, when Francisco Carrau Vehils bought a vineyard at Vilassar de Mar. Juan Carrau Sust brought the family to Uruguay in 1930, and Bodegas Carrau was established there in 1976. Its home is a restored winery in Colón that was built in 1887. The vineyards around Las Violetas in Canelones grow a range of varieties alongside Tannat, with careful fruit selection central to the winemaking.
Juan Carrau 2020 Gran Reserva Petit Manseng
Intense golden colour shows yellow tones, with apricot, honey and citrus aromas. The white has good structure, freshness and acidity. It is made entirely from Petit Manseng grown at Las Violetas in Canelones. Selected bunches are harvested by hand, then destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in three-hundred-litre French oak barrels, followed by ten months in the same barrels with bâtonnage.
