AboutBarone di Valforte
Barone di Valforte belongs to the Sorricchio di Valforte family of Atri, whose ownership of the baronial fief of Valforte dates to the fourteenth century. The name Sorricchio refers to a grain-cutting sickle that also appears on the family arms. Brothers Guido and Francesco Sorricchio di Valforte are joined in the family business by Guido’s daughter Annamaria.
The property extends across 300 hectares in Abruzzo, with 52 hectares under vine between the Adriatic and the Gran Sasso massif. The range focuses on Abruzzo wines, including Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. The winery uses solar power.
Barone di Valforte 2022 Valforte Rosé Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC
Italian Rosé
Strawberry and cherry accompany a deep ruby colour with violet reflections. The palate is fresh and gently tart, with a long finish. The wine is made entirely from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown at 150 to 350 metres in Contrada Piomba and Colle Sale, on sandy clay-loam soils. Harvest falls from late September into early October. Winemaking uses cold maceration; ageing takes place in steel with cold stabilization.
