Records place the Attems family’s vineyards in Collio in 1106, and estate ledgers list Ribolla Gialla and Refosco in 1764. Count Douglas Attems founded the Consorzio dei Vini del Collio in 1964 and led it until 1999. The Frescobaldi family has owned the estate since 2000.
Its forty-four hectares occupy south-facing terraces west of Gorizia, sheltered from cold northern winds and the Bora. Native grapes such as Ribolla Gialla and Friulano share the slopes with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Merlot, across parcels shaped by different soils and exposures. Harvest timing is set block by block, fruit is handled to limit oxygen, and fermentation is adjusted to each variety.
Attems 2022 Cicinis Collio Sauvignon Blanc
Italian White
Citrus, papaya and sage appear with vanilla, moka and jasmine. Lime and white blackberry are present on the finish. Sauvignon Blanc comes from a single vineyard at the foot of Monte Calvario on Ponca soils. Twenty-year-old vines are cooled by Bora winds and harvested by hand. Fermentation and nine months of maturation take place in concrete egg tanks and barriques, without malolactic fermentation. Alcohol is thirteen point five percent.
