AboutAnthonij Rupert

Anthonij Rupert Wyne began at L’Ormarins. Johann Rupert took stewardship in 2003 after the death of his brother Anthonij and developed a dedicated winemaking facility. The estate centres on the L’Ormarins and Anthonij Rupert properties beneath the Great Drakenstein Mountains.

For the flagship Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, grapes are hand-harvested, transported under refrigeration and sorted before gravity-fed fermentation. Both wines mature in barrel and bottle before release.

Anthonij Rupert 2021 Optima

South African Red
$49.99
Fruitcake, cedar, cocoa and dried lavender define the bouquet. The palate is broad, fleshy, succulent, soft, rounded and silky, with spice, rich dark fruitcake and a lingering dry tail. Whole berries are double-sorted, then fermented dry on the skins and given extended post-fermentation maceration. Fermentation uses French oak and stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation and twenty months in French oak barrels, thirty percent new.

Anthonij Rupert 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon

South African Red
$119.99
Tea leaf, violets, dark Christmas cake and black cherry form a layered nose. The palate is rich, with brewed tea, tomato leaf, spice and cedar. The wine is structured, balanced and long. Cabernet Sauvignon comes mainly from Franschhoek, with a smaller portion from Groenekloof in Darling. Fermentation uses wild yeasts, and maturation lasts twenty-four months in French oak, sixty percent new.

Anthonij Rupert 2019 Cabernet Franc Franschhoek

South African Red
$109.99
Blackberry leads with oregano, cocoa, graphite and a distinctive fynbos lift. The palate is succulent and generously fruited, bringing dark berry depth together with cinnamon spice and a firm savoury line. Polished tannins hold the concentration in balance while fresh acidity keeps the texture composed. The finish is long and layered, lingering on black fruit, cocoa, spice and mineral detail.
