AboutAbsentee Winery

Absentee Winery began in 2016 when Avi Deixler converted a former dairy barn in Point Reyes into a cellar after learning through harvest work in Oregon, Australia, Napa and France. The name reflects his low-intervention ideal: give the vineyard credit and avoid unnecessary additions in the cellar. Early wines drew on dry-farmed Mendocino fruit, including grapes from Poor Ranch. Deixler’s cellar work has included whole-cluster fermentations inside barrels, rolling the vessels during fermentation before pressing the grapes.
