Six years in bourbon casks followed by ten years in Bordeaux wine casks bring Islay peat smoke into close contact with ripe red fruit. Raspberry and strawberry lead into plum, currant, caramel and marzipan, with grape-skin tannin adding grip. Brine and damp-cellar earthiness emerge toward the finish, where smoke lingers. Bottled at cask strength, it rewards a little water.
