About 40 Knots Estate Winery
40 Knots began with vineyard plantings in 2007–08 on the Comox Peninsula, on a site overlooking the Salish Sea, and produced its first wines in 2011. Layne Craig and Brenda Hetman-Craig purchased the estate in 2014, bringing agricultural and business backgrounds to the next phase of the winery.
Ocean influence moderates the coastal growing season, while the vines root in glacial-till soils composed of marine sediments and gravelly moraine. The estate describes its approach as farming without synthetic inputs and making wine with minimal intervention.
