Candle wax, ripe cherry and worked leather lead a deep, savoury aroma, with cedar shavings adding definition. The palate is full and fleshy, shaped by firm tannins and cranberry-like acidity. Mineral salinity runs through the fruit and keeps the structure precise. The finish is long and smouldering, returning to dark cherry, leather, smoke and a taut mineral edge.

About Canalicchio di Sopra
Canalicchio di Sopra was founded by Primo Pacenti in 1962 on the north-eastern side of Montalcino, and its first Brunello followed in 1966. Pier Luigi Ripaccioli joined Primo in 1987, and since 2001 the third generation—Francesco, Marco and Simonetta—has carried the family estate forward.
Nineteen of the property's sixty hectares are planted to Sangiovese across the Canalicchio and Montosoli crus. The estate studies their different soils, exposures and microclimates, aiming to express those differences in its wines. Its Brunello is fermented in concrete and aged in large Slavonian oak casks.
